[08:59] cruciform: dorion, wrt installation system - I've been trying to get Ubuntu 24 to boot on an old laptop; may switch to Xubuntu 24.04.1 LTS as that's a known-working environment
[12:14] dorion: cruciform, nice. from my pov, I don't know how I endured gnome, tbh. before going to xubuntu a coupla years ago by now, I had swapped out gnome for xfce, but myeah, much smoother to just go w/ xubuntu from the start.

[18:54] funkentelechy: well i don't have the neuroscience background to answer that well
[18:55] dorion: i just ask that because I recall it was on their website banner.
[18:55] funkentelechy: ah now that rings a bell
[18:56] funkentelechy: anyhew tried to make a bitbet clone kind of thing for studying the shitcoin stack, you might be interested solbetx.com is a portal
[18:57] dorion: will have a look at it. primary appeal of bitbet was the people running it were had established WoT reps.
[18:58] dorion: !w help
[18:58] wotbot: Available commands: hi, help, register, up, down, key, rate, unrate, rated
[18:59] dorion: funkentelechy, go ahead and register a RSA key.
[18:59] funkentelechy: register
[19:00] funkentelechy: !w register
[19:00] dorion: !w register
[19:00] wotbot: funkentelechy: usage error: give a plain HTTP link to your public key (and nothing more).
[19:00] wotbot: dorion: usage error: give a plain HTTP link to your public key (and nothing more).
[19:01] dorion: http://jfxpt.com/paste/ -- you can feed the pubkey to the pastetron & then give the url as an argument to the register comman
[19:04] funkentelechy: ooh nice i was just gonna ask what pastebins you have been using
[19:04] dorion: http://dorion-mode.com/pub/mirrors/qntra.net/2016/03/a-miner-problem/index.html -- the drama that precipitated bitbet delisting and eventual auction. probably one of the most efficient & educational bankruptcy proceedings in history.
[19:04] funkentelechy: !w register http://jfxpt.com/paste/mf95c3brpy
[19:04] wotbot: funkentelechy registered with key 8DDE5A70381C29B02291D8C8AEBB35DF1018B150
[19:04] dorion: that's jfw's pastebin.
[19:05] dorion: !w key funkentelechy
[19:05] wotbot: funkentelechy has key 8DDE5A70381C29B02291D8C8AEBB35DF1018B150.
[19:06] dorion: curious why you went w/ 3072 bit
[19:06] funkentelechy: i have browsed ascii's logs on occasion
[19:06] funkentelechy: used the default
[19:06] funkentelechy: there were some other things to fix like the default hash iirc
[19:07] funkentelechy: i figured now that it's more important than ever is a good time to not use gpg at all
[19:09] dorion: are they up to anything over there ? i know they have their chat thing, but haven't seen much of any other developments.
[19:10] dorion: http://jfxpt.com/category/bitcoin/ -- meanwhile, jfw's vpatch count might have surpassed tbf by now.
[19:10] funkentelechy: i haven't seen much, never got on pest
[19:10] funkentelechy: looks interesting though i should probably check it out
[19:11] funkentelechy: i was also planning to mess about with lora and reticulum one of these days
[19:11] dorion: what's lora & reticulum ?
[19:11] funkentelechy: long range wifi and an overlay network
[19:12] dorion: the lora that carries interest in these parts is eulora2.
[19:14] dorion: funkentelechy, aha, jfw's documented explorations to date on lora.
[19:17] funkentelechy: thank you!
[19:17] funkentelechy: i would like to run trb again, you have a node up?
[19:18] dorion: !w rate funkentelechy 1 vermonter who liked a twatter quip I made and found his way outta the ghetto into more civilized realms.
[19:18] wotbot: dorion: get your OTP: http://jfxpt.com/paste/sgfnk7kvcg
[19:19] dorion: gonna take me a bit to verify it.
[19:20] funkentelechy: indeed
[19:20] dorion: funkentelechy, yes, there are a list of publicly peerable nodes here.
[19:20] dorion: is* a list.
[19:21] dorion: and we also have some running behind NAT.
[19:22] dorion: http://jfxpt.com/bitcoin-reference-implementation/ -- is the entry point for running our implementation, (we don't call it trb).
[19:24] funkentelechy: i kind of miss the shibboleth terms of yesteryear
[19:24] funkentelechy: prb
[19:26] funkentelechy: i'm unfortunately too far out of the loop on bips and power rangers to contribute much even if i could remember whatever it was they used to call the local dialect in tmsr,b
[19:27] funkentelechy: and now i gotta go clean some shit off lightbulbs but looking forward to stop back in here soon keep up the good work all
[19:27] dorion: i still call that prb and use a bunch of the other variety speak. but let stan and them continue to carry banner of the trb corpse. our vtree carries on the tradition, but with work.
[19:27] funkentelechy: variety speak! That's it thanks
[19:28] dorion: we don't really follow the bips either. you made the first step with key registration, now look to stand up a node and ask us questions about it if/when needed.
[19:29] dorion: funkentelechy, ttfn
[19:29] dorion: funkentelechy, btw, do you smuggle incandescents into vt sinced they banned the sale ?
[19:30] funkentelechy: yeah, borders aren't too tight yet :)
[19:49] jfw: hi funkentelechy. you any relation to funkenstein from logs of old?
[19:51] jfw: hopefully we don't have to go all the way to wax candle or oil lantern illumination, especially with all the wood construction in new england
[19:52] jfw: http://jfxpt.com/2026/jwrd-logs-for-Apr-2026/#15619 - latest

[20:45] nekoluce: hey

[00:07] nekoluce_: hi
[00:07] nekoluce_: where is the new guy ?
[12:22] dorion: nekoluce, he signed off for now.

[02:05] jfw: it continues
[05:11] jfw: also in pending Gales updates is a needed PHP fix for untangling the executed script path from trailing URL path info; for now, the only secure configuration for fastcgi interfacing is to set cgi.fix_pathinfo=0 *and* cgi.discard_path=1 in /etc/php.ini.
[05:19] jfw: with nginx or ProxyPass configurations, only cgi.fix_pathinfo=0 was generally necessary, as frequently if superficially explained on the web, as those already ensured by regex that the overall URL ended with .php.
[05:24] jfw: ironically, in the now recommended <Files *.php> configuration, fix_pathinfo may have actually ended up more secure, despite being a shoddy unconfigurable reimplementation of apache functionality.
[05:29] jfw: the more loudly promoted PHP-FPM, consisting in my estimation entirely of papering over problems by piling on features, didn't remove the reimplementation but papered over it by piling on an optional feature to enforce the .php extension.
[05:29] jfw: so far I'm sticking with the simpler php-cgi.
